In recognition of the Triune Godhead’s participation is mankind, salvation the believer is baptized on the basis of the Trinitarian formula: i.e. – The Name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19.) This has always been the orthodox position of the Christian Church.

In the Book of Acts (2:38, 8:16; 10:48; 19:5) the abbreviated form emphasizes the distinctive quality of this baptism. The new Christian avows his intention to be committed to and be identified with Jesus Christ.

Upon acceptance of Jesus Christ as the focus of our Christian faith we are baptized in the authority of Jesus Christ. This is not a contradiction to the fuller formula given in Matthew 28:19.
